You might be interested in cars as a hobby. You could repair them yourself, buy parts for them and sell them. Or just have fun with them. This would be a wonderful hobby if you're looking to find something completely different.

It's difficult to make this a fulltime job. It takes dedication and hardwork. Also, you will need to put a lot of money into it.

It is best to avoid getting involved in car accidents unless you have good reasons.

What is the length of an apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic?

A three-year apprenticeship in automotive mechanics takes. This includes two years in school and two as an apprentice. The first year is spent learning all aspects of the trade, including theory, practical skills, and safety procedures. You'll also learn the safe and efficient use of tools during this first year. After the first year, a second year will be spent on-thejob training. This year you'll get experience in different trades. These are also the times you can attend formal courses.

The last year of the program is dedicated to gaining certification and qualifications in the field. These include NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications), that are given after passing specific industry exams. Additionally, HNCs are Higher National Certificates that cover general subjects such management, customer service, and business administration. City & Guilds certificates may be available for those who are interested in becoming qualified in specific trades.

Do I need to have a degree to work as an automotive mechanic? Do I have to study part-time?

It is not essential, but it is helpful. Employers prefer applicants who have completed a full-time degree. It shows you are dedicated and have worked hard to achieve your goals.

This doesn't necessarily mean you can't continue to work while studying. Some universities allow students the flexibility to finish coursework during summer vacations and resume their studies later in year. Others let students take classes part-time throughout the year.

They must also be able comprehend how the various parts interrelate with one another.

This means that mechanics usually make less money than automotive technicians. Both careers have many options.

How To

How to be an Automotive Technician

An automotive technician provides repair services and maintenance to vehicles. He/she works at automotive shops, garages or service centers. He/she works with customers to repair their cars and trucks, ATVs or snowmobiles. An automotive technician must be capable of diagnosing problems and making repairs safely, accurately and efficiently.

A person who wants to work as an automotive technician should first obtain an associate degree from a vocational school. After completing this program, he/she must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands to American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists of two sections. One section tests knowledge of mechanical components, while the other section tests skills in practical areas. To take the test, you must visit one of the approved testing locations. These locations can be found online or at your local auto dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass an examination in order to be licensed as an automotive technician. This process is different depending on where you live. Some states require candidates to complete a training program, while others let them study on their own. Some states issue licenses to technicians as soon as they get their license. Others wait until they have worked at least six months as an automotive technician.

Apply to your local dealership to become an automotive technician. Most new employees work as apprentices after they have been hired. Apprenticeship programs typically last three to four years. Students learn basic repair skills such as changing oil and adjusting brakes, changing tires, cleaning spark plugs and inspecting engine compartments. Some students are taught how to repair engines and replace transmission fluids. Many schools offer classes during normal business hours. Some schools offer evening classes, however.

When a student has completed his/her apprenticeship, they become a journeyman. Journeymen usually spend four to five year learning how to install major systems like transmissions, differentials steering gear, suspensions, drive shafts, and steering gear. Journeymen also learn to fix complicated problems, such as rebuilding engines or troubleshooting electric components. Many employers prefer hiring journeymen because they know the job well and understand what the customer expects.

Once a candidate passes the required exams and is granted a license, they might consider opening their own shop. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. This figure is expected to rise 18 percent between 2009-2020. Candidates who decide to open their own business should be prepared to invest thousands in equipment and supplies.

There are many factors that affect the salary of an automotive technician, such as where they live, their education and experience. An average salary for a jobless individual is $20,000 per annum. Someone with only a high school diploma could earn around $21,000 per year. Earnings for those with an associate's diploma are approximately $24,000/year. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earned about $27,000 per year. A master's degree earns around $32,000 per a year. A common trend is for salary increases to occur so a professional making less than $30,000 can reasonably expect to be earning $40,000 or more within a few years.
