Carfax

A Carfax accident report is a great idea if you are looking for a used car. Although the report will not tell you exactly what happened to a car in an accident, it can alert you to potential problems before you buy the car. If the car's history list includes multiple owners, that could be a sign that the previous owner overestimated its capabilities, or if the previous owner has been negligent or careless.

The Carfax website maintains a database of more than six billion vehicle records. This data is gathered from over 100,000 sources, including auto auctions, state inspection stations and fire departments, as well as motor vehicle bureaus across all 50 states. This site will provide detailed information on the owner of the vehicle and details about any previous problems.

The first part of the VIN indicates the country of origin, while the second and third characters indicate the manufacturer and division. The vehicle's name and safety are indicated by characters four through eight. You'll get a report that explains the type of accident the vehicle was in and whether any damages were done to the vehicle. Insurance companies will also track accidents under the VIN. This information is important if your goal is to purchase a vehicle. If the vehicle has been in an auto accident, the information you receive can help you avoid the same situation when buying another car.
